Exploding Canvas: Unleashing Creativity using Perfect Paints!
Creativity often starts with a spark of inspiration, and for me, that spark ignited one afternoon as I perused various craft ideas. Among the myriad of projects, a striking large canvas caught my eye—its vibrant colors and dynamic textures seemed to leap off the screen. In that moment, I felt an undeniable urge to try my hand at something similar. Armed with a set of Perfect Paints Shimmering Acrylics, I embarked on a new artistic adventure that I now affectionately call the "exploding canvas" technique. While I may not have the formal terminology down just yet, the process has proven to be an exhilarating and liberating experience. Join me as I share the journey of transforming a simple idea into a spectacular piece of art, infused with shimmer and bursting with creativity!
Supplies needed:
Perfect Paints Shimmering Acrylic in Beehive and Vintage Patina
49 & Market Nature Study Natural Habitat
49 & Market Plum Laser Cut Wildflowers
5x7 board canvas (purchased at Dollar Tree)
5x7 stretched canvas (purchased at Dollar Tree)
Misc craft flowers
Pop Dots
Adhesive - ModPdoge and hot glue
To start I cut my cardstock to match the size of the board canvas. Then I used modpodge to adhere one to the board and one to the back of the canvas
Once those are dry you can then use an exacto knife to cut a star into the canvas. Make sure the paper is good and dry or it will just tear the paper while cutting.
Now I flipped the canvas over and painted the front with my Perfect Paints. I tried to add more of the green where I knew it would fold. Just make sure to blend the colors at a point so that it looks like it flows from one color to the next.
Once this is completed then you can flip the canvas over and start rolling the edges. Once you have the look you want then just add a touch of hot glue to hold them down. At this time I also hot glued the board canvas onto the back of the stretched canvas.
At this time I went ahead and added a wood frame to the canvas. It's not necessary but I love the added touch.
Now it is embellishment time. I love just added what feels right. A few flowers, some laser cut stems and journaling block. To give the flowers a 3D look just add a few pop dots that are made for this look.
This was such a cute and quick project. With so many different patterns of paper available and with the Shimmering Acrylics.....you can make a true masterpiece.
Much love and happy Summer.
