Spring is finally here in Maine. The flowers are blooming and the bees are buzzing. This is a fun project that celebrates Spring and the rebirth of all the pretty things.

Pink flowers and bees on a green background, with text: Let the fields be jubilant… Psalm 96:12. Blue flowers and moss below.

SUPPLIES:

Perfect Paints Polishing Plaster

Perfect Paints Shimmering Matte Acrylics

OTHER SUPPLIES:

12 x 12" Mix the Media board by jillibean soup, white paper flowers with yellow stamen, bee buttons (Walmart), faux lavender florals (Walmart), spanish moss, PC or printed sentiment, cardstock, pallette knife, paint brushes, corner rounder punch, wire cutters and adhesives.

Craft items on wooden table: jars labeled "Perfect Paints," paper flowers, bee buttons labeled "Dress It Up: Bee Happy," and purple flowers.
Sin for Joy

First, I gathered supplies that I wanted to use and tried to picture the layout. I knew I wanted to include a Verse: "Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy." -Psalm 96:12, but I ended up not being able to use the chipboard pictured, it didn't fit with all the embellishments I wanted to use. I also didn't use the violets. The board is already primed with a white-wash and has a jute hanger.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Background. Rub the background of the board with Perfect Paints Polishing Plaster #1072 Glided Azure for a "sky" and #1076 Frosted Pine for a "field". After it dries, add more to make it darker, to your preference.

  1. Tree. Tint Perfect Paint #1084 Clover Honey Polishing plaster with Perfect Paint #1027 Spiced Saffron Shimmering Matte Acrylic. Paint a tree onto the background. Once you're satisfied with the shape, stipple and line the trunk and thick branches to get a texture like bark. Mix a small amount of Perfect Paints #1035 Honey Gold Shimmering Matte Acrylic into the mixture and paint highlights on one side of the trunk and large branches. Let dry completely.

  2. Verse. Create a word processing document with the font of your choice and print onto paper. Cut to size. Round the corners and adhere to sturdy cardstock. Also round the corners of the cardstock. Rub around the edges of the printed Verse with Perfect Paints #1076 Frosted Pine Polishing Plaster. You can glue it into place now, or wait until you've finished the flowers.

  3. Leaves for flowers on the tree. Place the flowers where you think and take a photo to refer to later. (It was at this point that I realized I wanted to color tint the flowers) Make leaves from Perfect Paints  #1076 Frosted Pine Polishing Plaster with a pallette knife. Use the guide photo to place them.

  4. Floral art on wood: white blossoms on a painted tree, lavender at the base. Text reads, "Let the fields be jubilant..." -Psalm 96:12.

Flowers. Use a tiny paint brush to add Perfect Paints #1015 Peony Shimmering Matte Acrylic to the centers of each petal of each layer of flower. Thin the paint with Perfect Glaze Medium for a more sheer coverage. Let dry and then glue into place. Adhere the Verse, if you haven't yet.

Painted pink flowers on a tree branch against a textured blue-green background, creating a serene and artistic mood.

  5. Floral Border and finishing. Trim pieces of the faux lavender to size and hot glue them along the bottom of the board. Glue Spanish moss along the base to cover any stems or glue. Cut off the plastic nubs from the bee buttons and glue the bees into place.

I hope you are inspired to create something beautiful today.
