Summer is in full swing, and I love seeing all the patriotic decorations out = from flags to sparkling decor. Of course, I decided to make our own flag themed decor this year with something as simply as a cutting board! Are you ready to try your hand at this fun little project?
Supplies:
Cutting board
Red and white craft paint
Sticker tile (Dollar Tree)
Burlap
Raffia
Wood cut shapes (stars and heart)
Perfect Paints Shimmering Matte Acrylic in Red Wagon and Beach Sand
Perfect Paints Polishing Plaster in Boho Blue
Painters Tape
Sand paper

Just a few products which makes this a fun and quick project.
For starters I took the sticker and measured out how big I wanted my square to be. Once you have it cut, just peel off and adhere to the cutting board. Now you can use your painter's tape to start taping off your stripes.

I use a strip of the tape in between my stripes so that I can measure them out evenly.
Start with your craft paint and coat each strip in red. While it is still wet, I used the Perfect Paints Red Wagon and painted over the top. Let this dry and then do the same for the white stripes.

Using a palette knife I then coated the sticker in the Perfect Paints Polishing plaster. But make sure to let some of the texture design from the sticker shine through.

I set this aside and let it dry for about an hour or so. Then I used a sanding block to sand the whole board. Making sure to sand off areas of paint. I wanted the rustic feel.
Take a strip of burlap ribbon and wrap about the center of the board and glue down. I then took strips and glued them down to make a bow. Tie raffia into knots and glue on top of the ribbon. Now add some wood cut stars and heart, paint white and finish off with a light sanding.

And just like that....you have the cutest little decor to add to your kitchen or a shelf!
Hope you enjoy the summer and happy crafting!
XOXO
Becky
