Art Journal with Perfect Paints

Hello Creative People! It’s Becky, and I’m thrilled to share a new project today that aims to spark your creativity and mine. Art has a beautiful way of weaving together emotions and experiences, and nothing does this better than an art journal filled with gratitude and expressive creations.

In light of today, Veterans' Day, November 11th, I want to take a moment to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. May God bless you! Your dedication and sacrifice mean the world to us, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to you.

As we embark on this artistic journey together, let’s fill our journals not only with vibrant colors and designs but also with deep appreciation and reflections of gratitude. So grab your supplies, and let’s get inspired!

SUPPLIES:

Perfect Paints Polishing Plaster #1076 Frosted Pine

Perfect Paints Shimmering Matte Acrylic #1035 Honey Gold and #1013 Vintage Mercury

Other: 11 x 14" Canson drawing pad, chipboard/poster board, two 12 x 12" decorative scrapbook paper (49 and Market), 2 sheets of music approx 5x8", mulberry paper, PC & printer, Adhesives and cutting tools, images of birds, butterflies and flowers (some are stickers), gold colored metal corner charms (4), botanical stencil and pallet knife.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Reinforce the cover of the drawing pad with chipboard or thick poster board. I happened to have a large old poster from the local fair that worked perfect. Cut to size, apply adhesive all over the cover and attach. Smooth over with your hands. Tips: (1) Place a sheet of wax paper underneath the cover to avoid getting adhesive or other mediums onto the interior pages. (2) Place books or a board on top of the chipboard while it's drying to avoid curling and warping.

  2. Cut scrapbook paper to fit the entire cover, use both sheets to make the best selection of images and adhere to the cover.

  3. Select hymns or music sheets, trim to approximately 5 x 8', adhere to the background using Mod Podge or the adhesive of your choice.

  4. Create a standard letter size word document on your PC (8 1/2" x 11") to type the verse. I used Lovely Home font in 40 pt and Times New Roman in 20pt. Use an adhesive runner or tape to attach mulberry paper to plain white printer paper. Load the paper into the printer paper tray so it will print to the mulberry paper. Let dry completely, or heat set with an iron or heat tool.

  5. Using a paint brush with water or a water pen, wet a frame around the verse and pull apart to feather the edges. Adhere the verse to the background of the journal cover with Mod Podge or preferred adhesive, seal with the same.

  1. Place stickers and cut outs of birds, flowers and butterflies as desired.

  2. Stencil botanical leaves around edges with a mixture of Perfect Polishing Plaster #1076 Frosted Pine and Perfect Shimmering Matte Acrylic #1035 Honey Gold.

  3. Brush around the edges of the cover with the mixture of Perfect Polishing Plaster #1076 Frosted Pine and Perfect Shimmering Matte Acrylic #1035 Honey Gold. This will help camoflage imperfect edges.

  4. I really wanted the whole cover to shimmer, so I brushed the entire project with a blend of Perfect Shimmering Matte Acrylic  #1013 Vintage Mercury and Perfect Glaze Medium #1201.

  5. Use a strong adhesive (E-6000) to attach the metal corners. If necessary, to help keep the corner flat and secure, use clips until it's completely dry.
